Lincoln County, north of St. Charles County along the Mississippi River with its county seat in Troy, has been one of the faster-growing exurban counties in the region over recent years, even as much of the county retains a rural, small-town feel outside its growing communities.

That mix means we see two fairly different situations here: newer households dealing with a life event that puts a recent purchase underwater or unaffordable, and longtime family properties — farmhouses, older homes on acreage — that come into probate needing real repair work or code compliance before they're ready for a sale.

What we see most often in Lincoln County

  • Inherited older or rural homes needing repair or code compliance work
  • Growth-driven relocation and downsizing sales
  • Estates for families who no longer live in the immediate area
